Personal Learning Experiences

It was quite a challenge trying to recall how I learned from my growing up years, specially recalling the names of who and when.  As far as I know, I learn best when any of the following are present:

    •    It was something that interest me;

    •    The professor posed enough amount of challenges that tickled my imagination (not too much that it actually disheartened               me to continue);

    •    There was an exchange of ideas; and

    •    I actively participated and experienced the learning.

Below are the three (3) instances that I recalled where I found learning was memorable.

Primary Education

I still had difficulty reading when I was in Grade 1 but I succinctly remember my grandmother asking me to read series of words with a ruler on her hand. The sessions were scheduled and she used the ruler to point out the words. She would teach me the sounds of each letter and how to enunciate the words. This became a routine until I was able to read the words without her assistance.  I can't remember when I finally learned to read but I know it was through her patience and continuous practice that I learned to read.

High School and College

I can honestly say that I learned organization and critical thinking when I was both in HS and College. However, it was not particularly inside the classroom that I learned both concepts but from joining school organizations,  I remembered being tasked to organize a class project, a campus activity or network with other organizations. Since my 2nd year in College, I joined several organizations such as AIESEC, Theater, Student Commission on Election (S-COMELEC) and Student Council.

Though those were considered extra curricular activities, the exposure I got from it taught me the skills that are still relevant to what I am now doing.

At Work

Loyalty in a company seems to be a rare occasion now a days.  I am now 19 years with TDG and turning 20 by September 2018. I had previous work exposure and project-based work.  However, when I joined TDG, it seems I found a company that I can grow with. I started my career as an Executive Assistant to the Vice-President of one of the Member Companies of TDG.

The first time I got exposed to planning was when my boss asked me to prepare his report. Year after year, from preparing the report and now reporting to the board, I was able to harness my skills in strategic planning through observation, reading, participating in planning sessions and being mentored by my direct supervisors.
